Chris Sununu threw his support behind Nikki Haley's presidential campaign, his endorsement in the critical early-voting state was highly coveted by a slew of GOP contenders. Chris Christie, one of the few GOP candidates willing to attack Trump, might have seemed like a good choice. But Sununu told the Washington Post that Christie failed to impress him. Sununu told The Post that Christie, who suspended his campaign earlier this month, was "absolutely obsessed with being president" but had a limited message for voters. Should Trump's lead hold, says Andrew Smith, director of the University of New Hampshire poll, Trump will become the first candidate – aside from sitting presidents – to win both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary. "We're so far past the days when voters nationally were really just waking up" to the campaign debates in the early weeks of a presidential election year, says Dante Scala, a University of New Hampshire professor and author of the book "Stormy Weather: The New Hampshire Primary and Presidential Politics." New Hampshire GOP voters, however, are a different breed of Republicans, Smith says, focusing more on fiscal conservatism and small government. On Wednesday morning, Trump attacked Haley again, posting an altered photo of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton with Haley’s face superimposed on it. Those ads have attacked Haley on immigration, something Trump’s team views as a top issue for Republicans in New Hampshire. During a rally in Atkinson, New Hampshire, on Tuesday, Trump accused Haley of “artificially boosting her numbers” by appealing to “Democrats and liberals to infiltrate” the GOP primary. Only Republicans and undeclared voters can participate in the New Hampshire GOP primary, and the deadline for Democrats to change their registration passed months ago. Rather than attacking Trump directly, Haley has lumped her former boss together with President Joe Biden — taking swipes at their ages.

Two-thirds of Republican voters don’t think President Joe Biden’s 2020 victory was legitimate, despite all evidence to the contrary. Iowa caucusgoers, unlike most of the country, overwhelmingly support banning most or all abortions nationwide. Iowa voters could be asked on the general election ballot to make clear there is no right to abortion guaranteed in their state’s constitution. While Trump held a commanding lead among Iowa caucusgoers without college degrees, college graduates were more closely divided among Trump, former South Carolina Gov. After an anemic showing in the Iowa caucuses, long-shot GOP presidential candidate Asa Hutchinson abandoned his bid for the presidential nomination Tuesday, saying he was “driving back to Arkansas” and suspending his campaign. CNN —Former President Donald Trump’s easy win in Iowa on Monday confirms that there really is no race for the Republican nomination this year. Iowa is a solid red state that gives a good sense of where the Republican Party as a whole stands today. The DeSantis campaign and its outside allies spent $35 million in the state between January 1, 2023, and January 12 of this year. Even with an almost 2:1 spending advantage over Trump, DeSantis couldn’t mount an effective challenge — not even with the backing of Reynolds and Vander Plaats. DeSantis and Haley were not weak opponents — but as Iowa shows, even strong rivals can’t touch Trump.

The final poll from Iowa’s premier pollster, Ann Selzer, has Trump at 48% followed by former South Carolina Gov. If the final outcome Monday night mirrors the poll, Trump will have won the highest Iowa GOP caucus vote share for a non-incumbent ever. A Haley win in the first primary race in the nation would indicate that Trump is not invincible. He did more than 5 points better than where his final Iowa poll had him. (His 28-point margin over Bradley was the same as the final poll found, as both Bradley and Gore won some undecided voters.)
